Oil dependency is increasing at such a rapid rate that it will eventually pass current production and manufacturing capabilities. That is why I have been, and continue to be, a supporter of our renewable energy legislation and programs.
“The Energy Policy Act of 2005”, was intended to be a comprehensive piece of legislation that would re-prioritize our current energy agenda. This bill came to the floor for a vote of final passage on April 21, 2005. I voted NO on this bill and the conference report because it falls far short of President Bush’s strategy to respond to the reality of threats to America’s economic and national security from our dependence upon cheap, imported oil. Some items he has mentioned in the past that I am interested in are the “Nuclear Power 2010” initiative, expansion of “Clean Coal” technology, and aggressive R&D towards “Hydrogen Fuel” technology.
