Science
Before coming to Congress, I obtained a PhD in human physiology. Therefore, being one of three Scientists in the House of Representatives and a Member of the House Committee on Science, I am a strong supporter of science and technology.
I can remember during the late 1960's and early 1970's when young people would stay up late at night to watch America's pioneering exploration into space. These amazing feats inspired a generation of young people to pursue careers in mathematics, engineering, and science. America is reaping the benefits now with some of the finest professionals in the world. Congress needs to be aware that if the federal government does not support research like that which takes place in the offices of Earth and Space Science, we will lose a generation of researchers who will discover the mysteries behind many of the phenomena which puzzle today's scientists.
